About Karli

Karli Baldus

I have been married since 2001 and have two beautiful children. My extended family lives in the Tri-Cities area. I take an interest in how the family systems interact, raising healthy children, parenting as a team, and continuing to focus on the marriage relationship, while being involved in the hustle and bustle of life and of raising a family.

My mission is to provide a supportive environment, professional insight, and researched-based strategies to allow the client to grow in a way where the client no-longer needs counseling services.  Every client is different in how long that will take, but I hope to empower clients to be their best self and chose the path that is right for the client.

I understand that life is full of things we cannot control.  We all have problems, but the key is how one handles the problems.  I will help my clients to dig into the client’s expectations and see how it matches up with reality.  I strive to understand the client’s needs, provide a nonjudgmental space to explore issues, and collaborate with the client to find positive solutions based on the client’s goals. I strive to stay up-to-date on the latest researched based practices and provide psycho-education, when appropriate.

I earned my Master’s of Arts in Counseling Psychology through Western Michigan University.  I am a Limited Licensed Psychologist and a Limited Licensed Professional Counselor through the State of Michigan.  I also have a Master’s of Arts from Eastern Michigan University in Drama and Theatre for the Young.  I have been a teacher at Muskegon High School since 2001 teaching many subjects including math, theatre, broadcasting, speech, and computers.  I am also a Drama Therapist in Training through the Center for Creative Arts Therapy.  I am trained in Level 2 Gottman Method Couples Counseling, which means I have studied with the leading researchers and practitioners in couples counseling.  I also trained to work on treating affairs, trauma, and addiction with couples through The Gottman Institute specifically with Dr. John Gottman, Dr. Julie Gottman, and Robert Navarra, Psy. D.  I have had experience working as a Parent Mentor at Catholic Charities.  With all that training and experience, I specialize in working with teens, couples, and helping families.

I am able to take Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Blue Care Network, ASR, Aetna, Priority Health, Coventry, and First Health Insurance.  If you are interested in private pay, an hour individual session is $100.

I am currently under supervision with Patricia Townsend, Phd, Dr. Margaret Lowe, Psy D., Rev. Kate Meyer LPC, and Azizi Marshall MA, LCPC, RDT/BCT, REAT.  That means that I could discuss all my cases with any of these four individuals to make sure that the best care is provided to all of my clients.
